Enrichment Points

It is Kell Band philosophy and policy that a student benefits greatly from musical enrichment activities outside of the school day.  A student needs to earn 10 pts in any combination to receive the full 10%.  10% of each student’s grade will be based on the following point system below.  All of the information on this post as well as more details regarding the enrichment points can be found on the syllabus that all parents signed the first week of school and is in each students band binder.  If you need an additional copy of the syllabus, the document can be found on this blog (under the “forms and documents” tab above) or on Charms.

  • Private Lessons (10pts)
  • Chamber Ensemble Performances (5pts)
  • Marching Band Participation (5pts – fall term only)
  • All-State/Honor Band Audition (Need to only audition) (3 pts)
  • Research Project/Composition Project (3 pts)
  • Intonation Analysis (3 pts)
  • Jazz Ensemble (3 pts- spring term only)
  • Concert Attendance and Critique (1 pt per concert)
  • Program Notes (1 pt per piece)
  • Student Assistants for Camps (2 points)

A student must earn 10 pts in any combination to receive the full 10% in this category.  If a student earns additional points above and beyond the required 10 pts, they may apply those points (at a rate of 1% extra-credit per point earned) in areas where they are below the possible percentage earned.  For instance, if a student takes private lessons, does the intonation analysis and attends 10 concerts, they would earn 23 points for the term.  The extra 13 points could be applied to their playing/written test score as extra credit (if their test average were 80% for the term, they would now have a 93% in that category!).
